Review: For this review, I'm not going to score because I don't have enough of the product to do a proper test, but I do want to provide some overall impressions.
Taste
This is my first time ever tasting a New Riff product. On the nose, it has a nice bourbon aroma. The color is very dark for a 4 year bourbon. You can really pick up the spice smell. On the tongue, this has a nice taste that isn't overpowering. This is a nice sipping bourbon and I think would mix well (Manhattan anyone?).
Smoothness/Finish
I picked up a medium finish with above average smoothness. There was a bit of burn drinking straight, but went down much nicer with a splash of water. In all fairness, I find this is usually the case with most bourbons with a 100 or more proof.
Intangibles: Color/Appearance
I haven't seen a 4 year bourbon with this dark of a color. The taste isn't as overpowering as the color would indicate. I'm intrigued how they can get that color after only 4 years in the barrel.
Availability
I didn't know this brand existed until I was given some to try so I don't have a great idea on how available this bourbon is throughout Ohio. I looked up the price and it listed as active and comes in at $39.97 + tax.
Overall Impressions
With this, I wasn't sure what to expect since I had never heard of the brand, but after 2 oz, I'm impressed. If I see this when I'm out and about, I'm definitely picking up a bottle so we can do a proper review and see where this stacks up with others at that price point.
