Here at ColumbusBourbon.com, we've been hearing lots of rumors on Instagram, reddit, forums, and first-hand in liquor stores that Ancient Ancient Age 10 Star has been discontinued.
We reached out to Buffalo Trace and they confirmed that it has not been discontinued. What did change several years ago is that originally, Ancient Ancient Age began as a 10 year product. They dropped the age statement all together and became Ancient Ancient Age 10 Star with a new statement that says 'Aged at least 36 months.'
While we haven't formally reviewed Ancient Ancient Age 10 Star (it's on the schedule for later this year), for some of us, it's our go-to bottom shelf bourbon, and for others, it's not something we ever gravitate towards.
Our Take
Our take is that we're extremely pleased that this will continue to be on the shelves. Our editorial team all has their favorites from the bottom shelf and this is on the list in addition to Evan Williams Bottled-In-Bond and Old Granddad Bottled-In-Bond. I think Buffalo Trace knows this brand has a loyal following, but like most of their products, they are either limited availability to create demand or the State of Ohio is doing a horrible job keeping this stocked. Either way, if you see this out in the wild, you don't need to rush out to buy them thinking that they will soon be discontinued.
As always, be sure to check back to ColumbusBourbon.com for all the bourbon and whiskey news with an Ohio slant.
