This is the second year of a limited release of King of Kentucky. The bourbon is aged 15 years and presented non-chill filtered and bottled at barrel strength. It offers the following tasting notes:
Notes of creamy honeycomb and creme brulee caramel coat a rich oak backbone that dance with hints of ripe melon, dry apple peel, and cardamon spice. Aromas include rich notes of dark honeycomb, caramel, marzipan, and toasted coconut are enhanced with hints of toasted hazelnut, vanilla, and dried apricot fruit. All are brightened with resinous oak, cinnamon, and clove spice character. As mentioned, the raffle will occur at the locations at the bottom of this post. Entries will be collected from 6pm until 7:30pm. At that time, the winners will be announced. Winners must be present to win and contain a valid ID. The cost of the bottle is $249.99 + tax.
Our Take
First of all, those tasting notes are ridiculous. There are cancer sniffing dogs that couldn't derive all of those flavors from a single bourbon. Even if it could, there would be too many flavors to actually enjoy.
For the raffle, this is one I'm sitting out. I'm not familiar with King of Kentucky as a brand and 39 bottles simply aren't enough to drive anywhere for... especially when the individual locations are only getting a maximum of 11 bottles. In my opinion, this would have been better off at the bourbon raffle at the end of the year instead of distributing across the state.
