Grain & Barrel Spirits brand Chicken Cock has announced the creation of their signature Chicken Cock Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey. This new spirit is distilled, aged, and bottled in Kentucky and produced at Bardstown Bourbon Company.
This new spirit is bottled in a replica of the Prohibition-era Chicken Cock bottle. It comes with a 90 proof (45% alcohol) and has an MSRP of $59.99 for a 750ml bottle.
The tasting notes are:
Nose: Balances oak tones with sweet notes of dried fruit, caramel, and vanilla
Taste: Soft tannins. A creamy, almost buttery mouthfeel is complemented by butterscotch notes and toasted oak,
Finish: Vanilla
Our Take (updated)
I reached out to Chicken Cock to see if this would be available in Ohio and they said it was available to order online for $69.99 + 9.99 shipping. Additional information provided is that this has an age of 4+ years in the barrel is a permanent addition to their lineup and contains a mash bill that is a blend of various mash bills/whiskies.
Since I've never had this, it's hard to give a recommendation either way, but given the updated information, if you are a die-hard bourbon collector or enthusiast, this is a new brand that is worth checking out. If you are a more traditional bourbon enthusiast, if you see this at a bar, I'd give it a try and see if it you like it before spending close to $80. In terms of look, the bottle is very sharp and I think would look good in any collection.
