Ohio Division of Liquor Control (OHLQ) Announces WhistlePig Barrel Series #2 of 4 - Available September 28

The Ohio Division of Liquor Control (OHLQ) has announced the availability of the second of four WhistlePig Single Barrel selections that will be offered in Ohio. The four releases are titled Spicy Pig, Smooth Pig, Rich Pig, and the Sweet Pig. All releases will be coming from 10-year-old, single barrel selections. This release is for the barrels called 'Smooth Pig' and will be available on Saturday, September 28th at 9am at select stores (list below).

Smooth Pig comes with a 120 proof (60% alcohol) and has been bottled for 10 years.

The tasting notes are:

Nose: Toasted oak, lemon zest, vanilla, and grapefruit
Taste: Hints of maple syrup, dark chocolate, baking spices with a hint of tropical fruits.
Finish: Long and oaky with caramel and spice

The bottles are $99.99 + tax for a 750ml bottle.

Our Take

It's disappointing that each location only received 60 bottles. If someone is interested in purchasing this, I would recommend arriving at least an hour early. It's nice that the State is bringing in single barrels from various distilleries, but this would be much better and efficient if individual stores could do this on their own based on the demand in their area. Leaving it up to the state means that there isn't enough supply and limits the number of opportunities. You can read more about why this system sucks for consumers here.
