This new bourbon will only be sold in Kentucky and comes in with a 118.4 proof (59.2% alcohol). This is a double-barrel release, meaning that the bourbon was aged in two different barrels which gives it an extra-aged expression. John Rempe, head distiller and master blender for Lux Row Distillers says:
“We wanted to do something unique to commemorate the opening of Lux Row Distillers so I tasted through many barrels to find the ones that would complement each other perfectly creating a well-balanced, flavorful bourbon. Each two barrel combinations will be slightly different but will have strong caramel and vanilla notes, with a warm and spicy finish.”Each bottle includes a custom Lux Row Distillers embossed bottle, real metal labels, and
is topped with a solid copper cork. Additionally, each bottle’s label includes the barrel numbers and age statements of the barrels selected with the story of the grand opening of the distillery on the back label. Only 6000 bottles were produced and they carry a suggested retail price is $150.
Our Take
I usually stay away from limited edition bottles over $100 because it's hard to know the quality and there are so many other bourbons at cheaper price points that I haven't tried... I'm making an exception for this. Given the track record of Lux Row (again, see the review of Old Ezra) as well as the age of the bourbon and the overall look of the bottle (it's gorgeous!!), I feel this is worth the price and effort. If I'm in Kentucky or near the Lux Row distillery, I'm recommending stopping in and grabbing one of these bottles before they're gone.
If you get a taste or score a bottle, drop a note in the comments with your thoughts.
