In order for a spirit to be labeled as Bottled-In-Bond, it must meet strict criteria including that it be:
- Distilled by one distillery during one distillation season (Jan–Jun or Jul–Dec)
- Aged at least four years in a federally bonded warehouse under U.S. government supervision
- Bottled at 100 proof (50% alcohol by volume), adding nothing but pure water
- The label must bear the name and number of the Distilled Spirits Plant (D.S.P.) where it was produced, and, if different, the D.S.P number of the bottling facility
Heaven Hill BoB comes is aged 7 years and offers the following tasting notes:
Nose: Warm notes of vanilla, honey, and a rich caramel sweetness
Taste: Smooth, warm and sweet with a subtle rye spice note; caramel and honey mingle with just enough oak and char to round out the richness
Finish: Long, lingering
My Take
Bottled-in-Bonds are some of my favorite bourbons. Lately, I've been gravitating to Evan Williams BoB as one of my favorites for everyday drinking. For that reason, I'm excited for this release. Heaven Hill has a reputation of quality bourbons with such brands as Evan Williams, Larceny, and Elijah Craig. Although no MSRP was given, I would expect this to be in the $30-45 range. If I see this on the shelves, I'm picking up a bottle and giving it a try.
