Michter's Master Distiller Dan McKee says:
Working on my first Celebration release was a labor of love for me. Ultimately, I chose to take whiskey from two Kentucky straight bourbon barrels and four Kentucky straight rye barrels in our stocks. Each Celebration release is special and unique, and this year's release differs from the 2016 one, where the whiskey came from three bourbon barrels and three rye barrelsSince we're dealing with only six barrels, availability is extremely limited. In fact, only 277 bottles are available. The whiskey's used to create the Celebration Sour Mash ranged in age from 10 years all the way up to 30 years. The bottles come in at 115.6 proof (57.8% alcohol) and have an MSRP of $5,000.
My Take
This year, there has been no shortage of super expensive whiskey releases. This is no different. The price point and limited availability means that this isn't a whiskey that the vast majority of the population will ever see, much list taste. For that reason, this is a huge pass for me. If any are allocated to Ohio, I would expect to see this as a lottery similar to the Double Eagle Very Rare & O.F.C. (1993 Vintage) lottery in March... either way, I'm ignoring this release.
