Lux Row Re-Launches Daviess County Bourbon

Lux Row Distillery has announced that they are re-launching Daviess County Kentucky Straight Bourbon in three distinct varieties beginning this month.

The three varieties are Daviess County Kentucky Straight Bourbon, Daviess County Kentucky Straight Bourbon – Cabernet Sauvignon Finish, and Daviess County Kentucky Straight Bourbon – French Oak Finish. The bourbons are made up of a 'mixed mash bill of both wheated and ryed bourbons for a balanced sweetness and spice.'

John Rempe, Head Distiller at Lux Row Distillers says:
“The combination of mash bills really sets this bourbon apart – the smooth wheated mash bill and the traditional spicy ryed mash bill come together for a balanced taste profile... The secondary aging in the cabernet sauvignon and French oak barrels adds a nice extra layer of flavor with a slight sweet fruitiness and oaky caramel undertones.
All three varieties are bottled at 96 proof (48% alcohol) in unique 750ml bottles with an embossed shoulder and topped with a natural cork. The Cabernet Sauvignon Finish has been aged for six months in cabernet sauvignon barrels from the Napa region in California, while the French Oak Finish has been rested in French oak barrels for six months for a hint of dry oak.

As mentioned, this is a relaunch of the Daviess County brand, which was originally created by Daviess County Distilling Company dating back to 1874.

The tasting notes are:

My Take

Lux Row is describing this new brand as 'an ultra-premium family of bourbons.' I'm not sure what that means, but I'm always excited for new bourbons, especially from Lux Row, which currently has the top spot in my bourbon rankings with Old Ezra Single barrel.

My main concern is the availability in Ohio. Past Lux Row releases have been slow to come to Ohio due to our ridiculous Ohio liquor laws. For instance, Blood Oath is hard to find as well is Old Ezra. However, if we look beyond that, I'm intrigued by the straight bourbon and would can't wait to give that a shot.
