Kris Comstock, senior marketing director says:
We’ve seen Blanton’s soar in popularity over the last few years, and fans have asked us for the Gold version in the U.S. too. We’re thrilled to fulfill their requests this summer.
Blanton's Gold is the same recipe as original Blanton's but comes in at 103 proof (51.5% alcohol) as opposed to Blanton's Single Barrel, which has 93 proof (46.5% alcohol). The bottle topper is also similar in that it mimics a horse and jockey and spells out the brand name “B-L-A-N-T-O-N-S.” The main topper difference is the gold color. The tasting notes provided by Buffalo Trace are:
Nose: Honey, heavy rye, dried fruits, vanilla, and chocolate
Taste: Full and rich, marked by apricot, butter, pepper, light honey, and oak
Finish: Long, with toffee and apple, developing on pecan and caramel
Blanton's Gold has a MSRP of $120.
My Take
Blanton's is some of the most sought after bourbon. I can't count how many questions I get on where to purchase or try. The simple answer is that it isn't readily available. It's a great problem for Buffalo Trace to have where they can't keep supply up with demand. For only this reason, I'm excited that Blanton's Gold is coming stateside. On the cons side, if regular Blanton's is already impossible to find, imagine how hard Blanton's Gold will be to find.
There was no indication that this product would come to Ohio, but if it does, I would expect it to be part of the annual bottle lottery that happens around the December timeframe.
If you see this during your travels or while you're out and about... drop a note in the comments with your thoughts.
