This 6th edition is scheduled to launch in the Spring and combines three selected bourbons that are blended for a distinctive whiskey. The three bourbons are:
- A 14-year ryed bourbon with notes of oak and leather
- An 8-year warm toasty ryed bourbon
- A 7-year ryed bourbon rested in cognac casks.
John Rempe, Lux Row Master Distiller, and creator of Blood Oath #6 says:
This particular pact is special in that the cognac barrels added some sweetness and a slight fruity, brandy flavor to the bourbon, creating an amazing taste profile. When selecting these bourbons, I wanted to see how these flavors meshed together and I have to say the result was spectacular. As mentioned, this release will drop in the Spring and comes it at 98.6 proof (49.3% alcohol). 17,000 cases are being produced and comes in a wooden display box and a suggested retail price of $99.99.
My Take
Like the Blood Oath #5 that I wrote about in April of 2019, I still haven't gotten my hands on any of the series to try it out. Part of this is scarcity. Blood Oath #5 did show up in Ohio, but the State has it listed as special order only, which means that it's not readily available. I expect the same for this.
If I ever saw this in retail, this is a release I would definitely give some hard thought on picking up. I like Lux Row... Old Ezra 7 Year is still the highest rated bourbon on the site and I like some of the other offerings that they've come out with. The price point is what I would expect for a beautiful looking bottle as well as the age of the bourbons that were mixed.
If you end up scoring a bottle or trying this while out and about, drop a note with your thoughts in the comments below.
