Fred Noe, seventh generation master distiller says:
We're taking bourbon lovers back in time and making a delicious bourbon true to the way my ancestors intended over 140 years ago, when Old Tub was first crafted. I'm excited to share this one-of-a-kind liquid with our fans and provide a bit of authenticity and nostalgia as we head towards another 225 years in the bourbon industry.
This new brand will be a limited release at select retailers nationwide. It has an MSRP $22.99 for 750ml. The tasting notes are:
Nose: Oak followed by vanilla and grain
Taste: Oak, complemented along with grain and a warm caramel
Finish: N/A
My Take
I love new bourbon releases. Especially when they offer something new and unique. Old Tub is pretty standard in that it's a bottled-in-bond release... which means that it's been aged 4 years and comes at a 100 proof. For me, this seems a bit on the low end. Sometimes I'll buy a bottle of Evan Williams bottled-in-bond or Old Granddad when I'm looking to mix it up. I could see substituting Old Tub to give it a try and see how it compares, but I don't think this is one I'd be tracking down and keeping on hand for special occasions, but it's definitely worth giving it a go if you see it on the shelves. Old Tub is currently listed as a special order only on the Ohio Liquor Control website, but I fully expect this to be available in Ohio in the future.
