Maker's Mark has announced their third release of their Wood Finishing Series with the announcement of FAE-01. Unique to this release, Maker's Mark seared the FAE-01 stave on one side, leaving the other side raw creating a one-of-a-kind flavor profile.
Master of Maturation, Jane Bowie, says that this release “tastes just like a barrel warehouse smells.” Not much is known about this release other than the standard marketing speak, but it does come in at 110 proof (55% alcohol), no MSRP was provided, and offers the following tasting notes:"Rich figgy notes complemented by tobacco undertones and a pleasantly dank woodiness"
My Take
First off, I really want to know who comes up with these tasting profiles? Who thought dank woodiness is something that would gravitate people to this release? I always find the company provided profiles hilarious. They are my ray of sunshine on an otherwise cloudy day.
While no MSRP was provided, previous Wood Finishing Series have come in at $59.99 in Ohio. For that price, this is definitely worth picking up. Especially if it does have that warehouse smell. To me, nothing is better than that and if this bourbon can deliver, it's a steal at $60. My take is if you see this out and about, buy it. It's limited release, a high proof, and unique.

I have the 2020 but have yet to open. I am looking forward to the 2021 and the Angel's share bottled up. Now when will Ohio bring it out!
