Woodford has announced their first Master's Collection for 2021 with the introduction of Woodford Reserve Batch Proof. Batch Proof is crafted using the same grain bill and process as Woodford Reserve Bourbon and has become an annual release.
This year's edition of the Batch Proof comes in with a 128.3 proof (64.15% alcohol) which is an increase from the 2020 version that had a whopping 123.6 proof (61.8% alcohol). Since this is the third iteration of this release since I've been writing, below are the proofs by year.As you can see, the releases have gotten stronger each year. No price was provided but recent Master's Collections have been listed at $129.99.
This release comes with the following tasting notes:
Taste - Dry tea notes are balanced by slightly sweeter dark caramel and cocoa notes. Traces of peppermint brighten a potpourri of dried berries.
Finish - A long subtle dryness is highlighted by a lingering dark chocolate espresso fade.
My Take
It's no secret that I'm a big Woodford fan so for me, this is a definite buy. The problem is that this is going to sell out incredibly fast and will be nearly impossible to find in Ohio because of our antiquated and ridiculous liquor laws. The best bet to purchase this is go to another state or hit up the Woodford Distillery in Kentucky.
