The State has announced the winners of the latest bourbon lottery. Per usual, my wife and I continued our streak of not winning. I'm always curious about what the odds are for the lotteries so I reached out to OHLQ for the final numbers...
Happy Friday. Do you have the final numbers for the number of entries for each lottery as well as the number of bottles available?
The response didn't directly answer my question... they responded simply by saying 'Entry: 59,974 with 1704 bottles available... this didn't address the number of entries for each lottery because technically, each lottery could be entered independently. Alas.
Anyway, given the number of entries and number of available bottles, we had a 2.8% chance of winning, which is a decent number. If you were looking for a specific bottle, for instance, Blanton's, your odds dropped dramatically... all the way to 0.37 or around 1 in 270 odds.In my opinion, What these lotteries do is create a giant black market for the products. I'm sure black markets exist in other states, but due to our ridiculous laws where alcohol can only be sold by the government, I would be willing to bet that it's much larger in Ohio because the State determines what and how much of each product is sold. It's antiquated and stupid and must cost our state millions in tax revenue...
Sorry for the tangent. Back to the lottery. Below is a list of some of my favorite winners:
- Babar (reminds me of the books I read as a child)
- Brogan
- Logan
- Coray
- Orie (almost like the video game)
- Trafton
- Durke
- Karensue
- Matthew, Mark,
Luke, John - Rachel, Ross,
Monica, Joey,Phoebe,Chandler
