Tasting Notes:
Nose: Dessert forward, creamy vanilla and lemon custard alongside rich caramel and dark brown sugar
Taste: Full-bodied with a base of ripe orchard fruit, subtle cinnamon stick, dried dill and hazelnut
Finish: Lengthy and spice driven, with peripheral black pepper and underpinnings of green anisette
My Take
I applaud Old Forester and parent company Brown Forman for continuing to bring out new variations of their rye recipe. I also like the single barrel. In theory, each bottle should be slightly different depending on the aging location of the barrel it came from. My big concern with this release is the lack of an age statement and a price of $80, especially when Russell's Reserve Single Barrel is priced at $54.99. For that, it'll be on the consumer on how much you love Old Forester.
