Ohio Division of Liquor Control (OHLQ) Announces Maker's Mark Private Selections

The Ohio Division of Liquor Control (OHLQ) has announced 32 barrels worth of six varieties of Maker's Mark Private Selection bottles beginning this week. All are aged 6+ years.

In order to track down a bottle, you'll need to head to this page to see if any stores in your area were allocated any bottles. Per the State website, store locations will be made available on a daily basis as stores receive their shipments so if interested, you may need to do a fair amount of work to find a bottle.

The prices are $69.99 for a 750ml bottle. The tasting notes are:

Campfire S'mores

Nose - Bold notes of oak and dark chocolate with brown sugar and ginger.

Taste - Milk chocolate fills the palate with a rich warm mouthfeel of vanilla and toasted marshmallow.

Finish - Long warming finish to complement a bit of smokiness.

Chocolate Covered Almond

Nose - Toasted almonds and candied nuts offer a sweet earthy aroma.

Taste - Cocoa and milk chocolate offer rich sweet notes to complement dark stone fruits.

Finish - Rich heavy feel with a crescendo of toasty baking spices.

Honey Crisp Blossom

Nose - Bright crisp aromas of apples and rose petals highlight the nose, with subtle hints of baking spices.

Taste - Red apples sweeten the palate, with a light texture and zesty spices.

Finish - Fruit zest keeps the finish light and sweet with a long citrus finish.

Kettle Corn

Nose - Cured tobacco and molasses harvest notes with rich fig.

Taste - A heavy mouthfeel blankets the palate with salted caramel and toasted oak.

Finish - Long soft finish with hints of spices and toasted coconut.

Caramel Corn

Nose - Vanilla with soft hints of brown sugar and charred raw honey.

Taste - Light sweetness of buttercream and maple with subtle nutty notes.

Finish - Soft finish with a blanket of warmth on the palate.

Brownie Sundae

Nose - Delicate notes of vanilla and sweet cream.

Taste - The front palate is soothed with dessert notes of vanilla bean and dark chocolate fudge, complementing a luscious toffee accent.

Finish - An inviting soft finish with a hint of almond.

My Take

My take is the same as last year's release... basically, if you're a huge Maker's Mark fan, go for it. Some of the flavor profiles seem really interesting. I'd be curious to see if the bourbon actually has any of the flavors (e.g. if brownie sundae actually has any brownie flavors), or if it's strictly a marketing ploy to sell some bottles.

What do you think? Let me know in the comments.
