Kentucky Distiller Bardstown Bourbon Company has been purchased by private equity firm Pritzker Private Capital. Bardstown was founded in 2014 and makes their own products as well as provides custom distilling solutions to other brands.
Bardstown distills more than 50 unique mash-bills for more than 30 brands and produces more than 7 million-proof-gallons a year, which puts them in the top 10 of US based whiskey distillers. Additionally, since 2019, they create their own branded product line (pictured above) and they host over 75,000 people at their Kentucky distillery. Terms of the deal were not announced. My Take
It's always interesting when private equity gets involved. Many times, they'll try to maximize short term value at the expense of long term growth in an effort to pump up the value of the company so they can sell... other times they are known to strip companies down and break up the parts so they can spin off into separate companies or whatnot. Another way private equity gets involved is to bring in a cash infusion allowing the company to expand in ways they wouldn't otherwise be able to do. There wasn't anything in the press release on which direction Pritzker will take.
In looking at their portfolio, Pritzker owns a lot of companies... including Monogram Foods, which is 'a leading manufacturer of meat snacks.' I think I speak for everyone when I hope we see a co-branded Bardstown Bourbon selection with meat snacks included!
