Michter's has announced the 2022 release of their US*1 Barrel Strength Rye. The March 2022 release comes in with an average proof of the barrels of 111.6 proof (55.8% alcohol) and carries an MSRP of $100 for a 750ml bottle.
Michter's President Joseph J. Magliocco states:Dan (Master Distiller Dan McKee) and Andrea (Master of Maturation Andrea Wilson) are our ultimate gatekeepers. They've continued the tradition set by our late Master Distiller Willie Pratt and our Master Distiller Emerita Pam Heilmann of not releasing something unless they feel the whiskey is just right.
No age statement or tasting notes were provided for this release. No official word that this will come to Ohio, but there is an older version of the US*1 Barrel Strength Rye listed on the State website so... #fingersCrossed.
My Take
Without an age statement, the only thing to go off for this release is that it's a barrel strength rye. Barrel strength rye's are usually hard to find, especially in Ohio. Still, $100 is a decent amount of money to pay for a single bottle, but not a crazy amount for a barrel strength. This is definitely worth checking out if you're a rye or a Michter's fan.
