Woodford has announced their latest Distillery Series release called Toasted Oak Oat Grain. This new release will be available starting today (June 7) starting at 10am at the distillery located in Versailles, Kentucky.
From what I gather, this is an oat grain mashbill aged in a regular charred barrel and then aged again in a new toasted oak barrel. No age statement or price was provide. It comes with the following tasting notes:
Nose: Well done cinnamon raisin oatmeal cookie dusted with cocoa, dark chocolate shavings and drizzled with dark molasses.Taste: Sharp spice notes of clove, cinnamon and nutmeg merge with citrus and a very dark chocolate character.Finish: Dry with a chocolate bitters hint.
My Take
For those unfamiliar with the Distillery Series, these are bottles that are usually only available directly at the distillery and are unique and rare blends. I have a half bottle (375ml) of Woodford Double Double Oaked, which I've been saving for a special occasion. If you are at the distillery, take a look at what's available (if anything) and it's worth picking up if you have any interest at all.
