The Ohio Department of Liquor (OHLQ) has announced the availability of seven (7) barrels worth of Ezra Brooks Distiller's Collection at select OHLQ locations starting this week for $34.99 + tax. This is Ezra Brooks that has been bottled at 107 proof (53.5% alcohol), rather than the usual 90 proof (45% alcohol).
These are bottled as single-barrels so each barrel will have a unique flavor profile based on how long and where in the warehouses they were aged. The tasting notes for the seven barrels are:- Barrel #7849589 - A more rounded flavor profile, with added citrus notes and overtones of cherry cola, provides hints of creamsicle before a smooth chocolate finish.
- Barrel #7849592 - Earthy spices on the nose segue to a very complex flavor profile with tones of ginger and a hint of citrus on the finish.
- Barrel #7849596 - A singular flavor profile combines hints of hot candy with those of cinnamon sugar donuts all before a pleasingly long, lingering finish.
- Barrel #7849598 - Rye spice on the palate, with subtle hints of raisin, gives way to sweet butterscotch and crème brûlée notes containing hints of currant leading up to a long finish.
- Barrel #7945759 - The taste takeaway is highlighted by delightful tones of chocolate-covered cherry.
- Barrel #7945760 - The flavor profile is marked by a fresh fruit vibe, with tones of cherry, apple, and orange, enhanced by hints of warm apple cider.
- Barrel #7945761 - Flavor hints of amaretto and vanilla meet sweet oak and hazelnut overtones on the way to a pleasingly bitter finish.

My Take
As you may know, Old Ezra is one of the highest rated bourbons that I've ever reviewed. That comes in at the 107 proof point that this release if bottled at. While this won't be aged seven years, I do think it'll be better than regular Ezra Brooks and the price point is definitely worth taking a flier on if you see this out and about.
