NBA and Golden State Warrior superstar Stephen Curry is launching a new bourbon brand called Gentleman’s Cut Game Changer. According to the announcement (an Instagram post), this looks to be a sourced bourbon from Boone County Distilling.
Per the label, Curry says:I’ve learned over the years that life is best enjoyed in the close company of others. It’s those moments of celebrating a milestone, enjoying endless laughter into the evening, or simply an unpredictable night of carrying on that makes for a memory you can always reflect on.
The mashbill is 75% corn, 21% rye, and 4% malted barley. The whisky is aged 5 years and carries an 85 proof (42.5% alcohol). No price or release information was provided.
My Take
This is effective a five year Boone County release, which is fine. I am excited to bring a famous athlete into the bourbon realm and it's even better that it's a minority. Per Forbes, research shows that Black consumers account for 12% of alcohol sales but only 7.8% of the workforce and 2% of executives, so anytime we can get more representation is always welcome. I'll be following this release as more details are provided.
