Heaven's Door Spirits has announced plans to open a new distillery in Pleasureville, Kentucky. Additionally, I'm not sure if I'm allowed to write about Heaven's Door without mentioning that the brand was founded by native Minnesotan Bob Dylan (real name Robert Allen Zimmerman). Although this was just announced, the distillery has been under construction since 2017 and has been producing bourbon since 2018.
The new distillery will feature two separate stillhouses, each in its own towering western horse barn, a Visitor's Center with tasting rooms and lounges overlooking the valley and Six Mile Creek, an eighteenth-century grist mill, two eighteenth-century cabins and a Moravian barn.Marc Bushala, co-founder and CEO of Heaven's Door Spirits says:
This is a momentous occasion for Heaven's Door. We selected this location for its remarkable natural beauty and unique ecosystem that has enabled us to make exceptional bourbon and create an unrivaled visitor experience. We are committed to the art of craft whiskey and honor the legacy of the many pioneers who have helped make Kentucky bourbon what it is today. We are thrilled to have Heaven's Door be part of this storied tradition.
My Take
I'm always hesitant when celebrities get involved in bourbon because 99% of the time, it's a quick money grab. This seems a bit better in that they have their own distillery and are making their own product. It also seems like Bob Dylan is leaving the distilling and whatnot to the experts and using him more for marketing than being involved in the nuts and bolts. With that said, this looks like a cool property and would be worth checking out if you're in the area.
